MARINE ECOSYSTEM PROTECTION
Return Shells to the Sea: Help Protect Marine Ecosystems
Send us your shells, sand, or pebbles, and we will take care of returning them to the sea. Shells are not just beautiful to admire; they play a crucial role in preserving marine ecosystems and ensuring the survival of molluscs.
Even if empty, broken, or fragmented, shells remain essential for coastal protection. They help prevent beach erosion, as their fragments enrich and reinforce the sand, keeping it stable.
A shell is a rigid biological structure that externally protects and supports soft-bodied molluscs—creatures without skeletons. Composed of inorganic materials such as calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) or calcium phosphate (Ca₃(PO₄)₂), shells are secreted by these animals as they extract minerals from seawater.
By returning shells to their natural habitat, we actively contribute to the conservation of marine ecosystems. 🌊🐚💙
